Beekeeping, when developed with the objective of generating income, should be managed as an activity whose return depends directly on the practices applied in the management of hives. To obtain populated hives and consequently higher productivity, the beekeeper must be aware of the importance of beekeeping practices, which include queen exchange, food supplementation, replacement of old combs with new ones, among other activities. Most beekeepers know how important these practices are for honey production, but do not use them in their routine or use part of these practices.
The Apiary School is an A.B.E.L.H.A. project that aims at the implementation of apiaries in partnership with teaching and research institutions, such as universities and technological institutes, beekeepers’ associations and cooperatives, in order to raise awareness about good practices, and work as a place for training in the best beekeeping practices, according to the context of the region where beekeeping is developed.
We understand that each institution wishing to establish the partnership has specific demands for the implementation of apiaries, which vary according to the types of materials (permanent and consumption) to be acquired, environmental and structural characteristics of the place where they will be installed. Thus, the work plan is built together, with the presentation by the partners of the demand and the budget necessary to meet the purposes of the proposal. Moreover, as it is a partnership relationship, it is important that the institution offer a counterpart, which can be of human or economic resources, always aiming to provide the adequate conditions for use and maintenance of the space. During the work plan development, the best way to transfer funds, which may vary according to the conditions of each partner, will also be discussed
Partnerships can be established in a continuous flow, without the need to wait for a public call. Those interested can send an e-mail to abelha@abelha.org.br.
