Public Call CNPq/MCTIC/IBAMA/ ABELHA Association N. 32/2017

Promoted by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and A.B.E.L.H.A., the research promotion initiative aims to support multidisciplinary groups whose studies generate knowledge about the biodiversity of pollinating insects in Brazil, practical methodologies for assessing the risks of agricultural pesticides for these species, and the valuation of the environmental service of pollination provided by insects to increase agricultural productivity.

The selected research consortia (multidisciplinary and inter-institution teams) received funding made available jointly by CNPq, Ibama, MCTIC and A.B.E.L.H.A.. The overall value undertaken is R$ 3.6 million.

The Call was launched in November 2017 and included nine projects in five lines of research planned:

Line 1 – Research into pathogens and parasites of native bees and Apis mellifera

Line 2 – Monitoring and evaluation of the situation of native bees in Brazil

Line 3 – Eco-toxicity assessment of pesticides for selected native species

Line 4 – Quantification and characterization of environmental resources collected by native bee species

Line 5 – Bio-economic evaluation of the pollination service in agricultural productivity by relevant crop

To learn more about each research project selected and in progress, read also the interviews made by A.B.E.L.H.A. with the study coordinators.
